Asa Kling | Partner
Asa Kling heads the firm's intellectual property practice including litigation and registration prosecution in courts, in arbitrations and before the Israel patents office. Mr. Kling consults on litigation and transactional issues pertaining to all aspects of intellectual property. Mr. Kling is an attorney-at law and a patent attorney and is well versed in international intellectual property and unfair competition laws.
Prior to joining the firm Mr. Kling was the Director of the Israel Patent Office and Commissioner of Patents, Trademarks and Designs (2011–2017). As Commissioner he presided over hundreds of adversarial proceedings concerning issues of intellectual property rights' validity and registration. During his tenure Mr. Kling led several reforms in Israeli intellectual property laws such as the new Israeli Designs Law and promoted the reduction of regulatory burdens on doing business. Prior to entering public office Mr. Kling was a partner in one of Israel's leading intellectual property law groups and litigated complex commercial disputes, primarily involving intellectual property and unfair competition issues. He was involved in the forming of several landmark precedents in copyright and patent law. Mr. Kling's expertise scopes all walks of intellectual property law and practice including copyright, trademark, design, plant breeders' rights, appellations of origin, geographical indications and of course patent laws.
Mr. Kling has gained experience as arbitrator and mediator in several intellectual property related cases.
Mr. Kling's unique experience as a legal professional having substantial background in engineering and science (Aerospace Engineer) provides him with a unique perspective on the theories and practicalities of intellectual property law – both on local as well as on international levels.
Mr. Kling is a regular speaker in many international fora. He teaches intellectual property law in several academic institutes as well as patent law in the Hebrew University, Jerusalem.
