Divider

On August 5, 2024, the Knesset enacted Amendment No. 13 to the Israeli Privacy Protection Law, 1981 (the 'Amendment' or 'Amendment 13,' and the 'Law,' respectively), which is scheduled to take effect on August 14, 2025. This is a substantial and far-reaching amendment that Naschitz Brandes Amir has closely followed, with our attorneys actively participating in the relevant discussions within the Knesset's Constitution, Law, and Justice Committee.

We are pleased to share the first update in this series, which provides a concise overview of the key innovations introduced by the amendment:

  • Updated terminology: The amendment introduces new or revised definitions.
  • Expansion of its scope: The definition of personal information has been extended such that the law now applies to a broader range of information.
  • Revised definition of processing: The law now covers a broader range of actions considered as processing personal information.
  • Reduced registration requirements: Most databases will no longer need to be registered.
  • Imposition of notification obligations: Certain databases are now required to be reported to the Privacy Protection Authority.
  • Practical steps and FAQs: Common questions and guidance on what to do in the coming year regarding database registration.
